ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has been re-elected to the UN’s Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations for the seventh time (NGOs). The election took place on April 13, 2022, in the United Nations’ Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.
The committee is an intergovernmental body that monitors the execution of the legislative framework that governs non-governmental organizations’ involvement in UN activity. It reviews NGOs’ requests for consultative status and accreditation with the ECOSOC.
The international community’s confidence in Pakistan’s participation and commitment to UN work is reflected in its election to the committee. Pakistan will continue to support collaboration between the UN and civil society groups working with governments to enhance the lives of people all over the globe as a member of the committee, according to a foreign ministry statement.
Pakistan’s civil society is diversified and flourishing. We have always encouraged and proved our commitment to proper civil society engagement in multilateral negotiations aimed at finding answers to humanity’s collective concerns, the MoFA stated.
