For the first time, Pakistan will host the 4th D-8 Senior Officials Meeting and the 3rd D-8 Ministerial Meeting on Tourism Cooperation on August 4-5 in Bhurbhan, Murree.
The two-day convention, organized by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation, is being conducted in Pakistan for the first time.
The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is organizing the meeting, which will be followed by a technical visit to the federal capital on August 6.
The 2nd D-8 Ministerial Meeting in Malaysia in 2019 resolved that Pakistan would host the 3rd D-8 Ministerial Meeting, which would be preceded by the 4th D-8 Senior Officials Meeting.
However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the meeting was postponed until 2021.
While chairing an inter-ministerial meeting on the preparation and organization of the D-8 Ministerial Meeting, Awn Chaudhry, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Tourism and Sports / PTDC Chairman, stated that it was aimed at promoting Pakistan’s tourism potential and exploring tourism trade opportunities of the member states.
He noted that the summit might pave the way for new avenues of socioeconomic development.
The meeting’s goal is to identify potential pathways (incentives and initiatives) to enhance intra-D-8 tourism in line with D-8 objectives and goals; to bring together tourism experts from member countries to strengthen their capacities and develop effective strategies for the post-COVID-19 tourism era; to provide a platform for member countries to exchange knowledge and best practices to facilitate cooperation opportunities; and to explore possibilities to promulgate D-8 objectives and goals.
