President Joe Biden’s nuclear remark about Pakistan’s nuclear weapons has prompted the government to summon the US ambassador, Donald Bloom, according to Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
At a press conference held at Karachi’s Bilawal House, the foreign minister made these comments. FM President Biden’s comments had been thoroughly reviewed by Bilawal Bhutto with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who expressed his hope that this incident would not have a negative impact on Pakistan-US ties.
“I am surprised by the remarks of President Biden. I believe this is exactly the sort of misunderstanding that is created when there is a lack of engagement,” the foreign minister maintained.
He added that, as far as security and safety are concerned, Pakistan’s nuclear resources adhere to all applicable international standards as set forth by the IAEA.
“Pakistan is adamant about ensuring its integrity a safety. If there is any question as to nuclear safety, then they should be directed to our neighbor India,” he said, adding that the neighbouring country recently accidentally fired a missile into Pakistani territory.
The minister mentioned that the US Embassy’s Donald Bloom had been summoned by the federal government for an official demarche, and he added that the US should be given the chance to explain its stance.
