In an effort to revive Pakistan’s squash legacy, the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) has partnered with Serena Hotels to host the Chief of the Air Staff-Serena Hotels International Squash Championship. The prestigious tournament will be held at Islamabad’s Mushaf Squash Complex from November 18 to 22, 2024, and will feature five days of world-class competition with a prize pool of $15,000.
At a press briefing on Thursday, PSF Secretary Air Commodore (R) Amir Nawaz emphasized the tournament’s international appeal, announcing that 17 global players, in addition to seven from Pakistan, have confirmed their participation. The diverse list of contenders includes athletes from Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, and the Netherlands, with larger groups from Egypt, Malaysia, Kuwait, and England.
The top seed for the event is Egypt’s World No. 62, Ibrahim Elkabbani, while Pakistan’s rising star, World No. 82 Noor Zaman, follows closely behind.
Amir Nawaz expressed gratitude towards Serena Hotels for their unwavering support of the event, underscoring that this collaboration will play a crucial role in promoting the development of squash in Pakistan. PSF Vice President Qamar Zaman, along with other PSF and Serena Hotels officials, attended the event, further highlighting the importance of collective efforts to celebrate and nurture Pakistan’s rich squash heritage.
