Pakistan is set to host its first international date festival in October 2024, following a partnership agreement between the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the UAE Embassy, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
The country, known for producing a significant volume of dates in regions like Khairpur (Sindh) and Turbat, and Panjgur (Balochistan), aims to use the festival to boost its date exports. While Pakistan imports various date varieties, particularly during Ramadan, it has the potential to generate substantial revenue from its own production.
The UAE Consulate in Karachi announced the festival would take place on October 24, 2024, following an agreement between UAE envoy Hamad Obaid Al-Zaabi and TDAP Chief Executive Zubair Motiwala.
Al-Zaabi emphasized the global participation at the event, which he believes will provide a unique platform to strengthen economic ties between the two nations and promote the export of Pakistani dates. The festival is expected to attract business personalities and experts from around the world, showcasing different date varieties and production techniques.
This event will likely enhance Pakistan’s economic landscape, offering an opportunity to bolster its agricultural exports and foster international business collaborations.
