Wednesday in New York will feature a one-day conference on “Women in Islam: Understanding the Rights and Identity of women in the Islamic World,” hosted by Pakistan in its role as OIC Council of Ministers Chair.
The meeting will take place simultaneously with the 67th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women at the UN Headquarters.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the foreign minister, took the step in an effort to close the gap between perception and reality on the status of women in Islam.
The Conference strives to combat detrimental social conventions, gender stereotypes, and cultural impediments to Muslim women’s empowerment. It will showcase how Muslim women are breaking new ground in their respective fields and acting as agents of change.
