Pakistan’s Foreign Office revealed on Monday that the country will send humanitarian aid to ease the suffering of Palestinians enduring the consequences of Israel’s oppressive actions. The ongoing aerial bombardment in Gaza has resulted in more than 2,800 Palestinian casualties, with over 10,000 people wounded.
The Foreign Office strongly condemned Israel’s indiscriminate aggression and the blockade imposed on the densely populated Gaza Strip. In response to the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, the government of Pakistan has taken immediate action to dispatch relief aid to support the Palestinian people.
Pakistan is actively collaborating with the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, relevant United Nations (UN) agencies, the government of Egypt, and its foreign missions worldwide to ensure the efficient delivery of aid to the affected Palestinians.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani engaged in discussions with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, where they both concurred on the necessity of swift measures to provide humanitarian assistance. Additionally, Jilani communicated with Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shukri, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to extending assistance to the region.
Chaos and despair have engulfed Gaza as over one million people flee their homes, seeking refuge from Israel’s bombardment of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. In preparation for a potential full-scale ground invasion, Israel continued to amass troops on Monday.
This escalation began after Israel declared war on the group following a breach of the heavily fortified border on October 7, perpetrated by waves of its fighters who engaged in acts of violence resulting in the deaths of over 1,400 people, the majority of whom were civilians.
Simultaneously, the UN Human Rights Office has sounded the alarm about the dire humanitarian conditions in the besieged Palestinian enclave, urgently calling for a cessation of hostilities to permit the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
UNHRO spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani highlighted the challenging humanitarian situation in southern Gaza, emphasizing issues related to water access, food availability, and the forced relocation of hundreds of thousands of residents.
In response, US President Joe Biden, during an interview with CBS News’s 60 Minutes, expressed support for establishing a humanitarian corridor to facilitate the safe evacuation of people from the conflict-affected region. He also advocated for the unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, encompassing food and water, into Gaza.
