Pakistan, Uzbekistan Deepen Cooperation with Strategic MoUs
Pakistan and Uzbekistan have taken a major step in strengthening bilateral ties by signing multiple memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements across various sectors, including trade, science and technology, youth affairs, and diplomatic facilitation.
The signing ceremony took place at the Congress Center in Tashkent, where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trade, investment, and regional connectivity.
Key Highlights of the Agreements
Trade & Economic Growth: Expansion of trade relations with a target of $2 billion in bilateral trade.
Science & Technology Collaboration: MoUs to boost research, innovation, and tech-based cooperation.
Regional Connectivity: Focus on railway trade routes and increased direct flights between Lahore and Tashkent.
Diplomatic Relations: Agreement on diplomatic passport facilitation for smoother official exchanges.
Investment & Business Expansion: Discussions at the Pakistan-Uzbekistan Joint Business Forum to enhance cooperation in textiles, pharmaceuticals, and technology.
During the visit, PM Shehbaz Sharif toured Tashkent’s Techno Park, showcasing Uzbekistan’s advancements in industrial manufacturing and technology.
A New Era of Strategic Partnership
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that these agreements mark the beginning of a “new era of cooperation,” strengthening Pakistan-Uzbekistan relations at regional and international levels.
PM Shehbaz Sharif lauded Uzbekistan’s economic progress and stressed Pakistan’s commitment to regional connectivity, highlighting that economic recovery, inflation control, and investor confidence are crucial for both nations.
