Pakistani Automaker Begins Shipping SUVs to Africa
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterLinkedinWhatsapp

For the first time in history, Pakistani automaker Master Changan Motors Ltd (MCML) started exporting the first batch of SUVs, comprising 14 Oshan X7, to Kenya.

A Pakistani motor vehicle company, set up a partnership between Pakistan’s Master Group and China’s Changan Automobile, recently marked a significant milestone. They began exporting vehicles, proudly labeled as “Made in Pakistan,” to the Kenyan and Tanzanian markets. They also have plans to increase their exports to other countries in the future.

This export achievement was celebrated during a ceremony in Karachi, which happened to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). CPEC is a crucial project of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, focused on boosting trade and infrastructure connections between the two nations.

The CEO of Master Changan, Danial Malik, highlighted their ambition to integrate Master Changan into Changan’s global vehicle supply chain through the “Vast Ocean Plan.” This plan was introduced by Changan Automobile’s Chairman Zhu Huarong. Under this plan, Changan Automobile intends to invest $10 billion in foreign markets, with a specific emphasis on cutting-edge, environmentally friendly technology.

Master Changan Pakistan, as Changan’s hub for manufacturing right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles, plays a pivotal role in realizing this plan by catering to RHD markets worldwide, according to Malik. He expressed gratitude to the government for the auto export policy for 2021-2026, which aims to promote and incentivize the automotive industry.

He also urged the government to create policies that stimulate higher local production, as this would enhance economies of scale, support increased domestic manufacturing, and encourage automakers to enhance their competitiveness in the global market.

The Oshan X7, the flagship product of Master Changan, is a vehicle of remarkable dimensions and performance. It features Pakistan’s exclusive 1.5L turbocharged engine and boasts a fuel efficiency of 14-15 kilometers per liter. Additionally, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 8.23 seconds.

The Oshan X7 is renowned for its modern design, luxurious interior, and state-of-the-art features, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FW), and heated and vented seats. It is the only vehicle in its category to offer a versatile 5/7 seat layout, catering to a variety of preferences and needs.
