At the 2024 New York City Marathon, Pakistani runners showcased impressive endurance, with 12 of the 36 participants finishing in under four hours. This prestigious event, known for its challenging course, saw Pakistani athletes competing alongside thousands of runners from around the world.
Leading the Pakistani contingent was Danish Elahi, who finished the marathon in an outstanding time of 3 hours, 26 minutes, and 50 seconds. Rufi Shehzada followed with a time of 3:32:22, while Pakistani-American Babar Ghias completed the course in 3:38:53. Other notable performances included Ammar Mumtaz, Prem Kumar, and Rehman Azhar.
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, Norwegian-Pakistani Khoula Ahmed earned the title of fastest Pakistani female runner with a time of 3:43:02, closely followed by Maheen Sheikh and Kaukab Sarwar, completing the top three Pakistani women participants.
This year’s NYC Marathon welcomed 36 Pakistani runners, including both local participants and expatriates from countries like the United States, Norway, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia. Their remarkable performances reflected the dedication and spirit of Pakistani athletes on an international stage.
Dutch runner Abdi Nageeye won the men’s elite category with a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 39 seconds, while Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui led the women’s elite category with a time of 2:24:35.
