Three students from Salim Habib University (SHU), Karachi—Mirza Areeb Baig, Zarish Majid Shaikh, and Syeda Fakhra Jalal—achieved 3rd place at the IEEE Region 10 Robotics Competition in Tokyo, Japan. The Biomedical Engineering students were recognized for their innovative Final Year Project titled “Robotic Grasper with Integrated Haptic Feedback Mechanism,” designed to assist surgeons during operations.
The project was supervised by Prof. Dr. M. Zeeshan ul Haque, Dean of SHU’s Faculty of Engineering, and co-supervised by Engr. Muhammad Aamir, a Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. The students credited their success to SHU’s strong support, which fully funded their participation in the competition.
The event featured participants from ten countries, including four teams from India. This achievement not only highlights the students’ ingenuity but also demonstrates the global recognition of Pakistan’s engineering talent.
