Over 100 Pakistani nationals gathered outside the United Nations office in Tokyo on September 25, 2024, to call for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Carrying placards and chanting “Release Imran Khan,” the demonstrators emphasized the need for political reforms, including electoral transparency and freedom of speech in Pakistan.
Khan, a former cricketer-turned-politician, was arrested amid rising concerns of political repression and human rights violations in the country. His supporters view him as a symbol of hope for a just and prosperous Pakistan.
“This protest is about more than one individual; it’s about safeguarding democracy in Pakistan,” said demonstrator Shakil Ahmed. Former PTI Japan president Yaar Mohammed added, “Imran Khan represents the voice of the people. We stand for democracy, and he must be freed.”
The protest reflects growing global awareness of Pakistan’s political crisis and the determination of Khan’s supporters to push for change.
