Pakistan’s squash players Muhammad Asim Khan and Muhammad Ashab Irfan have secured their spots in the final of the Mile High 360 Squash Classic after impressive semifinal victories on Saturday.
In a thrilling five-game match, Asim Khan overcame fellow countryman Noor Zaman, coming back from two games down to clinch a 6-11, 8-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-2 victory in 96 minutes. Khan’s remarkable comeback saw him save match points in the third game, before dominating the final two sets.
Meanwhile, Ashab Irfan delivered an outstanding performance, defeating England’s third-seeded Tom Walsh in straight sets, 11-8, 11-7, 11-3, in just 46 minutes. Irfan’s aggressive play left Walsh with little room to mount a defense, securing his place in the all-Pakistani final.
Khan’s journey to the final wasn’t without its challenges. In the quarterfinal, he faced Mexico’s second seed Cesar Salazar, who retired in the fourth game after Khan took a 2-1 lead, giving Khan a 12-10, 2-11, 11-7, 11-0 win. Irfan, on the other hand, showcased his skill with a dominant performance against Dillon Huang of the United States in his quarterfinal match.
The final promises to be an exciting contest between two of Pakistan’s top squash talents.
