The Chinese market’s growing demand for Pakistani rice can lead Pakistan’s exports to cross one million tons within two years.
This statement was made by the Commercial Counselor of the Pakistani Embassy in China, Badar uz Zaman, to the Chinese media.
He said that Pakistan’s rice exports to China last year were 475,000 tons, and added that Pakistan is the third-largest exporting country quantity-wise and fourth-largest rice exporter to China money-wise.
Last year’s top three rice exporters to China were Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand, with exports of 787,538 tons, 911,231 tons, and 324,642 tons, respectively.
In the case of Pakistan, the previous fiscal year had an increase of 59 percent in the country’s rice exports to China. This increase also provided an incentive for more rice exporters to enter the market in Pakistan.
Badar uz Zaman also informed the Chinese media that the number of registered rice exporters in Pakistan has increased to 53, and 18 new Pakistani rice companies were registered by the General Administration of Customs P.R. China within the last two years.
