Mohammad Shahzad, the father of Pakistan’s accomplished badminton champion Mahoor Shahzad, achieved an impressive feat by setting an Asian record at the Hong Kong Indoor Rowing Championship 2023.
In the 500m race, the sixty-year-old Shahzad secured three gold medals and established a new Asian record in his age category, completing the race in just 1 minute and 32 seconds.
Furthermore, he accomplished the 2000m race in an impressive time of 7 minutes and 12 seconds.
By finishing the 2000m race in record time, Shahzad earned his third gold medal, surpassing 90 percent of the world record.
In a previous event held in Portugal, Mahoor’s father had also secured two gold medals in the indoor rowing championship.
It is worth noting that Mahoor Shahzad, Mr. Shahzad’s daughter, made history as the first-ever badminton player to represent Pakistan in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Indoor rowing, also known as “erging” due to the equipment used (ergometer), is a rapidly growing sport with competitions taking place worldwide.
