In a significant achievement for Pakistan, the documentary “Songs of the Sufi” has been awarded the Best Documentary — Audience Choice Award at the 15th Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
The film explores the rich tradition of classical qawwali through the perspective of the Qawwal Bachay Gharana, featuring insights from music enthusiasts, devotees, and scholars. With its integration of Sufi-inspired art from renowned Pakistani artists, Mughal miniature paintings, qawwalis, and interviews, it offers an immersive cinematic experience that pays homage to this unique musical heritage.
“Songs of the Sufi is a beautifully crafted film that examines the history, culture, and universal message of love. Sharukh Waheed and Kamran Anwar have presented this masterpiece with exceptional taste and reverence,” stated Jigar Shah, Director of the Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
