According to the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Sensitive Price Indicator for the current week ended on 25th May 2023 decreased by 0.42 percent.
Meanwhile, the year-on-year (YoY) increase in weekly inflation was recorded at 45.49pc. During the week, out of the 51 monitored items, the prices of 18 items increased, 16 decreased and 17 remained unchanged.
According to the data, the prices of rice (basmati broken), cooked meat, mutton, fresh milk, and beef with bone climbed last week. Chicken, tomato, pulse masoor, pulse moong, wheat flour, eggs, garlic, onions, bananas, cooking oil, and LPG, on the other hand, got less expensive.
Short-term inflation reached an all-time high of 48.35 percent in the four weeks ending May 4.
Last week, weekly inflation, as assessed by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), fell by 0.16 percent year on year for the week ending May 18.
According to the data given, the composite index was at 255.12 on May 11, 2023, compared to 255.53 on May 11, 2023, and 175.08 a year earlier, on May 19, 2022.
The average price of 23 of the 51 monitored items increased, 13 decreased, and 15 remained unchanged over the week.
