According to a report made after a survey, the production of wheat is expected to break all records this year by a large margin, crossing 28.75 million tonnes, two million tonnes more than the previous high of 26.67 million tonnes in 2016/17.
If the harvesting of the wheat crops produces the same results, Pakistan may not require further imports, at least not in significant quantities, as per the reports.
Due to the previous production failures , Pakistan had to import more than two million tonnes of grain last year to make up for the shortfall in grain production.
The wheat harvest in Punjab, which accounts for around 75% of total production, is expected to be about 21.75 million this year.
