In honor of the contributions of the slain Pakistani minister for minority affairs Shahbaz Bhatti, a park in the Canadian city of Brampton carries his name.
During a ceremony, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown officially opened the “Shahbaz Bhatti Park.” Additionally, he tweeted several images from the park opening event.
“Proud to officially open Shahbaz Bhatti Park in #Brampton. A true symbol of religious freedom. We will never forget Shahbaz’s legacy, courage and sacrifice,” he captioned the post.
Shahbaz Bhatti’s efforts to promote interfaith harmony were praised and honored by the city government of Brampton.
“This park honours his legacy, and serves as a reminder of the importance of interfaith harmony, acceptance and inclusivity within communities like Brampton,” the city administration said in a tweet.
The first member of the Christian community to enter politics was Shahbaz Bhatti. In 2008, the PPP-led administration promoted him to the position of federal minister. He was killed, nonetheless, by TTP militants in Islamabad.
