The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a significant decision to appoint Gary Kirsten from South Africa and Jason Gillespie from Australia as coaches for the men’s national cricket team.
Kirsten will take charge as the white-ball coach, while Gillespie will assume the role of the red-ball coach for the Green Shirts, as per official sources.
A formal announcement regarding this appointment is expected from the cricket board after the necessary formalities are completed. The PCB has already advertised the coaching positions on its website and has set the deadline for applications until April 15.
This decision comes just ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand scheduled to commence on April 18.
The Pakistan cricket team’s next major assignment is the T20 World Cup, which is slated to take place in the United States and the West Indies in June.
These coaching positions became vacant after Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick were reassigned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore following a restructuring of roles within the PCB setup back in November 2023. The trio officially stepped down from their positions in January this year.
In April 2023, Arthur was appointed as the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, while Bradburn assumed the role of head coach of the Pakistan national men’s side the previous year. On the other hand, former South African cricketer Puttick served as a batting coach since April 2023.
Additionally, the PCB has opened applications for the position of assistant head coach, with candidates able to apply until April 20. Requirements for this role include a minimum level II coaching accreditation and three years of experience with an international team, franchise, or domestic team.
