Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, declared on Saturday that the price of petrol and diesel will not change in 2023.
The finance minister declared during a live telecast that the cost of light diesel and kerosene will also not change.
According to the finance minister, the Oil and Regulatory Gas Authority (Ogra) has suggested a small increase in the tariff for kerosene and light diesel oil in response to a rise in the pricing of petroleum products on the global market.
On the orders of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the government did not approve the regulatory authority’s recommendation, Dar continued.
“The decision was taken after considering that the weather is cold and the poorest people use light diesel oil for tubewells while kerosene is also used by people earning the lowest incomes,” he said.
It has been determined that the government will absorb the levy on these two products and lower the amount collected in order to maintain current prices, in accordance with the prime minister’s instructions.
The government reduced the cost of petrol by Rs. 10 and diesel by Rs. 7.5 on December 15.
On November 30, the cost of kerosene oil dropped by Rs 10, while the cost of light diesel oil decreased by Rs 7.5 per litre.
