The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has reserved its verdict on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) appeal challenging the reinstatement of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s election symbol, the ‘bat.’
The ECP filed an intra-court appeal, arguing that PTI did not conduct intra-party elections properly. The single-member bench of PHC, led by Justice Ijaz Khan, heard the case, and after the ECP lawyer presented arguments, the court reserved the verdict.
The ECP had nullified PTI’s intra-party elections on December 2, stating that PTI failed to comply with directions and hold elections according to its constitution and electoral rules.
The PHC had earlier announced the verdict in favor of PTI on December 26, leading to the current appeal by the ECP. During the recent hearing, the ECP lawyer emphasized that the PHC single bench suspended the ECP’s order without hearing its arguments.
The court reserved the verdict after these arguments, highlighting the ongoing legal battle over PTI’s electoral symbol.
