Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called for immediate and decisive action to address defects in the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project. During a meeting in Islamabad, he emphasized the urgent need to complete the investigation report concerning the recent closure of the project.
The Prime Minister expressed his dismay over the failure to conduct proper concrete lining, despite experts highlighting design flaws. “It is unfortunate that such criminal negligence occurred in a project of this magnitude and importance,” he stated.
He questioned why a detailed geological survey was not conducted prior to the project’s initiation, highlighting a significant oversight in the planning process.
In response to these issues, Shehbaz Sharif instructed the formation of a dedicated committee to oversee the immediate reactivation of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project. He stressed that those responsible for the project’s shortcomings would face stern action.
This decisive move aims to ensure the swift resumption of operations and reinforce accountability in handling large-scale infrastructure projects.
