Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar is set to embark on a two-day official visit to China, as confirmed by Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch during her weekly briefing.
The visit is in response to an invitation by the Chinese president to attend the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum. Prime Minister Kakar will participate in the BRI forum, where he will engage with world leaders on the sidelines of the event.
The 3rd summit on international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative is scheduled to take place on October 17-18 in Beijing, with the participation of leaders from over 50 countries across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Notable figures like President Vladimir Putin are expected to attend.
The Belt and Road Initiative, launched by China a decade ago, aims to create a global network of infrastructure and energy connections, bridging Asia, Africa, and Europe through both land and maritime routes. China has already signed Belt and Road cooperation agreements with more than 150 countries and over 30 international organizations, highlighting the initiative’s global reach and significance.
The first Belt and Road Forum was held in Beijing in May 2017, drawing high-level officials from Russia, China, and 28 countries spanning Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America. The second forum occurred in April 2019, solidifying the continued growth and impact of the Belt and Road initiative since its inception in 2013 under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
