Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed confidence on Tuesday that an agreement on an International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan package will result in a final decision by the global lender within a few days.
The prime minister made the remarks during a phone call with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. He also promised to work with the Bank to achieve the goals of improving the country’s economic situation.
Speaking on the occasion, IMF officials praised Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and his staff for their efforts in completing the IMF programme following her recent discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Paris.
She stated that the IMF desired an advantageous improvement in Pakistan’s economic status.
The South Asian country is scrambling to restart a credit programme that has been dormant since November of last year. Despite the implementation of all conditions imposed by the global lender to complete the ninth assessment of the $6.5 billion bailout package, clouds of uncertainty hang over the agreement.
