Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has invited the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim ibn Hamad Al Thani to participate in the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan, co-hosted with the United Nations, in Geneva on January 9, 2023.
In a telephone chat with the Amir, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for Qatar’s kind humanitarian support following Pakistan’s devastation by floods caused by climate change earlier this year.
He recalled that Pakistan now faced the enormous challenge of rehabilitation and reconstruction in a climate-resilient manner.
The prime minister highlighted that although Pakistan had made the most efficient use of its own limited resources, more international assistance and solidarity were also still needed to meet the enormous challenge of recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction in the affected areas as well as to increase resilience to future climate shocks.
Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Amir on Qatar’s successful hosting of the FIFA-2022 Football World Cup, saying that the event had established a new standard for worldwide sporting events.
PM Shehbaz Sharif and the Emir of Qatar also exchanged views on bilateral and international issues of mutual interest.
