Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif introduced the Health Insurance Card project on Tuesday, a significant step towards enhancing healthcare access for journalists, media professionals, and artists.
The premier described the insurance system as a “revolutionary initiative” in the realm of media.
Thousands of journalists, media workers, and artists across the country will benefit from the Health Insurance Card project. Beneficiaries would be able to access free healthcare services valued up to Rs1.5 million per year at 1200 institutions under this scheme.
“It is the first time that a health insurance scheme has been initiated for working journalists and artists,” he remarked.
The Prime Minister also announced the formation of a special fund through which journalists killed in the line of duty will each get four million rupees.
He stated that the decision was made after consultations with the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb.
The Pakistan Code, a Digital Repository of Federal Intangibles app and website, was also unveiled at the inauguration ceremony.
According to the Prime Minister, this will make it easier for the people to access all forms of federal laws.
