Voting for by-elections on six vacant Senate seats is underway at the National Assembly, as well as at the Sindh and Balochistan assemblies.
The elections are being conducted for one vacant seat in Islamabad, two General Seats from Sindh, and three vacant seats from Balochistan.
In the National Assembly in Islamabad, PPP candidate Yousaf Raza Gilani and Sunni Ittehad Council’s candidate Chaudhary Ilyas Mehrban are competing for the seat.
In the Sindh Assembly, both vacant seats resulted from the resignations of Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Jam Mehtab Dahar of the Pakistan Peoples Party. Four candidates, two from each party, are contesting the election.
In Balochistan, three seats became vacant due to the resignations of Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti, Prince Ahmad Umar Ahmadzai, and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri. Twelve candidates are vying for the election.
