The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for a potential increase of Rs 7.13 per unit in the power tariff due to fuel price adjustments.
The petition highlights that various sources contributed to power generation in January, including hydropower, coal-fired plants, natural gas, and nuclear plants.
NEPRA is set to review the request, and if approved, this hike will impose an additional burden of Rs 66 billion on consumers who are already grappling with high power rates.
This comes after a recent increase of Rs 5.63 per unit for monthly fuel adjustment in December 2023, adding Rs 49 billion to consumers’ electricity bills.
