The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has expressed disapproval of the federal government’s decision to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a move that has sparked controversy and concern among political circles.
Shazia Atta Marri, the Information Secretary of PPP, stated that the party, under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and as a key ally of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) led government, was not consulted prior to the decision to ban PTI.
Marri emphasized that PPP would convene consultations to deliberate on the implications and reasoning behind the government’s action.
Speaking on behalf of PPP, Senator Sherry Rehman corroborated Marri’s statement, highlighting that the party was unaware of the government’s intentions regarding PTI.
Regarding their alliance with PML-N, Senator Rehman acknowledged the complexities involved but stressed the importance of cautious decision-making to mitigate any potential repercussions.
“I have no knowledge of the extent to which this matter was deliberated within the government,” Senator Rehman remarked.
When questioned about the effectiveness of banning PTI, Senator Rehman expressed skepticism, stating, “In my opinion, such measures won’t achieve the desired outcomes. Despite facing various challenges in the past, PPP has remained resilient.”
“I believe that censorship and bans do not deter movements; there are alternative methods to encourage corrective actions,” Senator Rehman concluded.
