Following Ashtar Ausaf’s resignation as the Attorney-General for Pakistan (AGP), President Arif Alvi on Friday approved the appointment of Mansoor Usman Awan as his replacement.
The appointment was approved by President Alvi under Article 100 of the Constitution.
Awan graduated first in his class at the University of Punjab and holds an LLB and an LLM from Harvard Law School in the United States. For coming in first place in jurisprudence and for finishing in the first position in criminal law, he was given the Charles Earl Bevan Petman Law Prize and the Justice M. Jan Memorial gold medal.
Awan received the Dean’s Award for Leadership from Harvard Law School (2005). He served as the vice president of the Harvard Graduate Council in addition to being elected as the LLM Representative to the Harvard Law School Council while attending Harvard Law.
In September, the former AGP Ashtar Ausaf Ali submitted his resignation. He submitted in his resignation to Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister. He had, however, promised to continue working until a replacement was appointed.
