President Dr. Arif Alvi has highlighted the importance of embracing modern agricultural technologies and effective decision-making to address the challenges posed by global warming.
Speaking at the Regional Dialogue 2024 on “Climate Crisis: Shaping South Asia’s Resilience,” organized by the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad, he underscored Pakistan’s abundant water and renewable energy potential, emphasizing the need for efficient implementation to enhance competitiveness globally.
President Alvi noted that Pakistan possesses approximately 150 million acre-feet of water, sufficient to meet its needs with the adoption of modern agricultural techniques like spray and drip irrigation, while discontinuing flood irrigation practices. Stressing the importance of implementing the national water policy and relevant legislation, he suggested that a pricing mechanism could contribute to water conservation efforts.
