President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif offered passionate greetings to the nation on Ashura Day (Muharram 10), a day of significant significance and devotion across the country, advocating unity, compassion, and adherence to Islamic ideals.
President Arif Alvi
President Dr. Arif Alvi has asked Pakistanis to put aside differences and promote compassion, tolerance, and consultation in order to become a united nation and strive for Pakistan’s progress.
In his message for Yaum-e-Ashura, the president urged Muslims to renew their commitment to promote Islam’s essential principles, as well as to follow Imam Hussain’s (RA) teachings and strive to emulate his fortitude and steadfastness in their daily lives.
On Yaum-e-Ashur, he stated that Imam Hussain (RA), the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson, made a significant sacrifice in Karbala during the war between truth and falsehood, as well as for the protection of Islamic ideals. This was a war for the elevation of Islam, marked by a principled position and steadfast bravery.
The president stated that Imam Hussain’s stance against tyrannical ruler Yazid was a principled fight for justice, the safeguarding of Islamic ideals, and the protection of Islamic society from corruption and oppression.
“This courageous act teaches us that we should not bow to oppression and wrongdoing, but rather raise our voices against injustice, no matter what the cost,” he said.
He stated that the actions of Imam Hussain’s companions, who stood by his side on that turbulent day, showed us the value of loyalty, righteousness, and supporting those who fight for truth and justice.
He claimed that the Karbala fight taught us selflessness and sacrifice for the greater good. Despite his lack of strength and numbers, Imam Hussain (RA) refused to abandon Islamic ideals and values.
President Alvi stated that Imam Hussain (RA) gave his life, together with his family and associates, to safeguard Islam’s fundamental beliefs.
“It serves as a reminder to Muslims all over the world that we must sacrifice personal comfort and desires for the greater good of society and the betterment of humanity,” he said.
On Yaum-e-Ashur, the president stated that we must remember the value of conversation and understanding amongst diverse schools of thought.
“Let us stand together to uphold the values that represent Imam Hussain’s (RA) sacrifice.” “May Allah Almighty grant us the ability to learn from Imam Hussain’s (RA) sacrifices and to move forward with courage, perseverance, and boldness,” he prayed.
PM Shehbaz Sharif
