Season 8 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will begin in Karachi rather than Multan. The management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly undecided about holding the opening ceremony and the first game at Multan.

The PSL 8 first match on February 13 is most likely to be held in Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena (NBCA). Multan, meanwhile, will only be able to host round-of-16 games.

After the home ODI series against New Zealand is over, the final PSL 8 schedule will be revealed.

The opening ceremony of Multan’s first-ever PSL was scheduled to take place earlier. The league’s opening phase was set to be held in Multan and Karachi. The PSL 8 will also be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The management committee also requested to add Quetta as the fifth location for the eighth iteration of the PCB’s yearly headline event after receiving thorough information on the PSL 8 last month.

The Committee decided that PCB would work closely with the local administration to upgrade and renovate Bugti Stadium in order to make sure it was ready to host the PSL 8 matches. Separate discussions would also take place between PCB security experts and local authorities in order to ensure the safety and security of all participants, officials, and spectators.

“I am delighted that seven years after launching the HBL Pakistan Super League, I am today announcing our commitment to add Bugti Stadium in Quetta as the fifth venue for our marquee event. Bugti Stadium is the home ground of Quetta Gladiators and we still remember the incredible scenes when the Gladiators visited the city after winning the 2019 tournament,” said committee chairman Najam Sethi.

“I am happy that we will now bring HBL PSL matches to their doors. The enthusiastic cricket fans of Quetta have been waiting for a long time to see high-profile cricket in their backyard. In this regard, I have already spoken with powerful leaders in the province of Balochistan, who have guaranteed me their utmost cooperation from the standpoint of event delivery,” he continued.

It is planned that the eighth PSL will take place from February 13 to March 19, 2023.
