The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its decision to boycott the meeting of the Special Parliamentary Committee responsible for appointing the next Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
The committee meeting, scheduled for today at 4 pm, will make recommendations to the prime minister, who will then forward the nomination to the president for final approval.
This decision was made during a significant meeting of PTI’s Political Committee. According to the official statement, no PTI members will attend the committee’s sessions. Furthermore, the party has approved strict action against any members who vote against the party’s policy.
The PTI committee also declared that members who support any amendments in the process will face disciplinary measures, including the potential cancellation of their party membership. Additionally, show-cause notices will be issued to members who have distanced themselves from the party. Their responses to these notices will determine their future within PTI.
The 12-member Special Parliamentary Committee, formed to oversee the CJP appointment, includes representatives from both the government and opposition benches.
