Justice Tariq Nadeem of the appellate tribunal at the Lahore High Court (LHC) affirmed on Wednesday the decision of the returning officer (RO) who had previously rejected the nomination papers of Imran Khan, the founding chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for constituency NA-122.
Imran Khan’s nomination papers for NA-122 (Lahore) and NA-89 (Mianwali) were initially rejected on December 30, with the RO citing “moral” and other grounds for the decision.
The detailed decision provided by the election officer for NA-122 referenced a judgment from the additional session judge in Islamabad, which established the respondent’s conviction for an offense involving moral turpitude.
Furthermore, Imran Khan’s appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers for NA-89 Mianwali has also been dismissed by Justice Tariq Nadeem. The rulings uphold the RO’s decisions based on moral and legal considerations.
