Fawad Chaudhry, Senior Vice-President of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced on Sunday that the party would take legal action against police officers involved in the illegal operation and violence that took place during a raid to arrest the party’s Chairman, Imran Khan, at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
The Punjab Police resumed the operation and arrested several party workers after Khan left for the Islamabad Judicial Complex to appear before a court. Fawad tweeted that a meeting of the party’s legal team had been called, and cases would be registered against all police officers who conducted illegal operations and were involved in violence.
He condemned the police’s defiance of the Lahore High Court’s decision and wrote that innocent people were subjected to torture. The Punjab government has decided to take action against PTI workers who attacked the Elite Force and its van while returning from the Pakistan Super League’s final match.
In response to the violence, Lahore Police officials have advised their personnel to change their routes when going towards certain areas and warned uniformed officers against passing through the area where Khan’s home is located. Finally, the three students arrested on Saturday from Zaman Park have been released to their families, with no legal action to be taken against them.
