The inaugural session of the Punjab Assembly is scheduled for today, where newly elected MPAs will take their oath of office following the general elections held on February 8.
Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman has summoned the session, and Speaker Sabatin Khan will administer the oath to the elected representatives. The agenda also includes the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker.
Stringent security measures have been implemented, with over 500 policemen stationed around the Punjab Assembly building, alongside APCs, water cannon vehicles, and the Anti-Riots Dolphin Force to ensure a peaceful event. PML-N’s Ata Tarar expressed confidence in the party’s mandate from the people of Punjab, with the party now holding 210 seats after accounting for reserve seats.
With the inclusion of independent MPA-elects, PML-N has emerged as the largest party in the Punjab Assembly, and Maryam Nawaz is poised to lead the province as the head of the government.
Maryam Nawaz, nominated as the PML-N candidate for the chief minister position, has pledged to usher in a new era of good governance, setting ambitious goals for Punjab and vowing to establish ‘new records’ while serving as the provincial chief executive.
