The Punjab provincial government has introduced a program to offer discounted travel cards for individuals with disabilities. These cards provide a significant 50% reduction in public transportation fares, aligning with the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act to enhance accessibility for those dealing with disabilities.
The eligibility for the travel card initiative is extended to all individuals with disabilities possessing an officially sanctioned disability certificate from the government. Interested individuals can apply for the credential at the offices of the Deputy Director of Social Welfare in their respective districts.
In the previous year, the interim provincial administration announced complimentary travel privileges for elderly citizens and students using the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, and Speedo Bus Service. However, this service was discontinued just before the winter break.
Recently, interim Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued directives to reinstate the complimentary travel provision for students up to the twelfth grade across all Metro Buses and the Orange Line Train until the commencement of the summer break
