The Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI)’s lawsuit contesting the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to push back elections in Punjab to October 8 will once again be heard by the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday.

Today’s case will be heard by a three-judge panel led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and including Justices Ijazul Ahsan and Munib Akhtar.

Judge Jamal Khan Mandokhail had resigned from the bench during the previous hearing, making him the second judge to do so. The first justice to decline to hear the case was Justice Aminuddin Khan.

According to Judge Mandokhail, he felt like a “misfit” on the bench. Despite being a member of the bench, he claimed that he was not involved in its creation.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Khan, and Justice Mandokhail made up the first bench. The hearing had started on Monday.

To handle the PTI petition, the CJP later assembled a smaller bench including of himself, Judge Ahsan, and Justice Akhtar. The court had turned down the Attorney General for Pakistan’s (AGP) request to convene a Whole Court during the previous hearing.
