The interim government in Punjab has taken the initiative to reinstate complimentary travel services for students using the Metro Buses and Orange Line Trains, particularly considering the challenging weather conditions.
Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has given explicit instructions to officials to reintroduce this free travel service on these two significant public transport projects.
Under this decision, students up to the twelfth grade are eligible for cost-free travel on all Metro Buses and Orange Line Trains until the commencement of the summer vacation period.
It is noteworthy that this initiative is a revival of a similar program implemented last year by the provincial government in response to escalating oil prices. However, the service was temporarily halted just before the winter break, only to be reinstated now and will persist until the onset of the summer vacation period.
It is essential to highlight that students can avail themselves of this complimentary bus service if they are in their school uniform and possess valid school/college identity cards.
This decision is likely to alleviate the financial burden on students and their families, facilitating their commute during the harsh weather conditions.
