The Punjab Excise & Taxation Department has devised a strategy to tackle the backlog in issuing physical vehicle registration cards by introducing virtual smart cards in the province.
Acknowledging potential delays of up to a month in the processing of physical cards, the department attributes this to challenges in the tendering process. In response, officials are actively working to streamline the process and are considering innovative solutions, such as the implementation of virtual smart cards.
To materialize this initiative, the department has formally requested approval from the provincial government to proceed with the virtual smart card scheme. Once greenlit, vehicle owners will have the convenience of acquiring their virtual smart cards through online registration procedures. These virtual cards can be easily downloaded from the official website of the excise department.
The virtual smart cards will mirror the information found on physical cards, encompassing details such as the vehicle’s registration number, owner’s information, and other pertinent vehicle details. This move aims to enhance efficiency and provide a user-friendly alternative for the public during the vehicle registration process.
