The Punjab government has announced a major initiative to operate more than 3,600 government schools through a new public-private partnership. The agreement, signed on Thursday in Lahore, involves 21 NGOs, 12 education networks, and an education technology firm.
The signing ceremony, attended by Punjab’s Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, marks a significant step in integrating over 1.8 million children into the education system. Under the agreement, the management of these schools will be transferred to the participating organizations.
Minister Hayat highlighted the project’s dual benefits: it aims to provide dignified employment opportunities for thousands of educated youth and improve the quality of education. He also noted that schools demonstrating exceptional performance under the program would be eligible for upgrades.
This initiative is set to play a pivotal role in transforming Punjab’s educational landscape and enhancing access to quality education for children across the province.
