The Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has unveiled the groundbreaking ‘Green Wheels’ program, signaling a transformative initiative for the province’s transportation landscape. The ambitious project aims to distribute 10,000 electric bikes and rickshaws to the public under favorable terms, with the unique feature of being completely interest-free.
During a media address, Chief Minister Naqvi outlined the key features of the ‘Green Wheels’ initiative. The program intends to provide 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes to specific individuals without any interest charges.
Additionally, 2,000 electric bikes have been allocated for government employees, and another 2,000 are set aside for women in both the government and private sectors, all offered on interest-free terms.
A notable aspect of this initiative is the shift in government procurement policies. Chief Minister Naqvi announced a ban on the acquisition of fuel motorcycles at the government level.
From now on, government departments will exclusively procure electric bikes, aligning with the global trend towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
Underlining the provincial government’s commitment to addressing environmental concerns, Naqvi urged citizens to seize the ‘Green Wheels’ opportunity.
He emphasized the collective effort required to contribute to a greener and cleaner future for Punjab. The initiative not only aims to provide convenient and eco-friendly commuting options but also encourages a broader shift towards sustainable practices in the region.
