With Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday, Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani covered a wide range of topics that benefited both parties. He also reaffirmed his intention to maintain Qatar’s full cooperation and support in Pakistan’s development and growth agenda.
The Pakistani PM will attend the 5th United Nations conference on the Least Developed Countries while in Doha for a two-day official visit (LDCs).
The conference, which will take place from March 5–9, 2023, will discuss ways to hasten sustainable development in the least Developed Countries so that they can advance toward prosperity.
According to a PMO statement, PM Shehbaz exchanged views with the Qatari leader to further strengthen the excellent cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields including in the economic and investment sectors.
The Qatari amir welcomed the prime minister and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing the economic ties between his country and Pakistan. He reaffirmed his intention to maintain Qatar’s full collaboration and support for Pakistan’s development and growth agenda.
Islamabad is in the midst of a severe economic crisis and is requesting financial assistance from allies in order to unlock the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement. Since early last month, the lender has been in talks with Pakistan to resolve its ninth review. If the agreement is accepted by its board, it would release a $1 billion tranche of the $6.5 billion bailout that was agreed upon in 2019.
The prime minister praised Qatar’s ongoing assistance to Pakistan’s development initiatives at the meeting on Sunday in Doha and emphasized the tremendous prospects for bilateral cooperation.
According to the PM Office Media Wing, Hamad Al Thani praised Pakistani workers for their contributions to the development of his nation, praising them in particular for their great security work during Qatar’s successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022.
They also talked about transferring more Pakistani skilled people to Qatar and strengthening their bilateral commerce, investment, and cooperation. Moreover, the prime minister’s invitation for the amir of Qatar to visit Pakistan was accepted.
