A team of Quetta police led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigations Nadeem, arrived in Lahore to apprehend Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in compliance with a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by a local court in Quetta.
The warrant was issued in connection with a case filed against Khan under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (PECA), following a complaint by Abdul Khalil Kakar at the Bijli Road Police Station in Quetta. Kakar had accused the PTI chief of making statements against state institutions and their officers during a speech on Sunday, which he believed were intended to incite public unrest.
The Quetta police team, which includes Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Sattar, a sub-inspector, and two other officers, will be assisted by Lahore police. The court order has directed the authorities to present Khan before the court.
In his fiery speech on Sunday, the PTI chairman strongly criticized the “state institutions” after a team of Islamabad police had arrived at his Zaman Park residence to arrest him in the Toshakhana case. Khan, who was ousted from power in April last year, was addressing party workers and supporters at his residence in Lahore who were participating in the “Jail Bharo Tehreek” (voluntary arrest movement). He had asserted that he had never bowed down before any institution or person and would not let the nation do so.
The case against Khan has been filed under Sections 153A, 124A, and 505 of the PPC and Section 20 of PECA. The Quetta police team has arrived in Lahore to carry out the court’s order to arrest the PTI chairman, and he will be presented before the court in due course.
