During the previous four years, Pakistan Railways leased out up to 4,694 acres of its priceless land in an effort to increase revenue and turn the department into a lucrative one.
The leased-out area is spread throughout seven divisions, including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Sukkur, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Railways.
He said that the government is taking various actions to reclaim encroached land from land speculators, including conducting a thorough survey to identify the encroached land occupied by people and government agencies.
He said that with the aid of the Railway Police and district administrations, Pakistan Railways will step up its existing anti-encroachment operation against land squatters throughout the nation.
