Pakistan Railways has decided to shut down Shalimar Express once again due to financial crunch.
According to sources, the railway administration was losing almost Rs2 million every day. The Shalimar Express connects Lahore and Karachi.
After an eight-month hiatus, Pakistan Railways reintroduced the high-speed Shalimar Express passenger train in May 2023.
The high-speed train’s 19 carriages had been renovated at Mughalpura Workshop to improve its facilities.
The train previously ran from Karachi to Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Rohri, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, and Multan via Toba Tek Singh, Faisalabad, and Lahore.
The decision to begin the high-speed train was made on April 8 at the Lahore headquarters, presided over by Federal Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.
