The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated the registration process for foreign players looking to participate in the upcoming ninth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the flagship cricketing event.
According to an official statement from the cricket governing body, the registration window for foreign players is now open for the forthcoming PSL season, tentatively slated to run from February 8 to March 24.
The PCB also mentioned that the categories for local players will be renewed and announced shortly.
Prior to the PSL 9 Player Draft, tentatively scheduled for mid-December, following the conclusion of the National T20, team retentions and trades will be finalized. The National T20 final is scheduled for December 10 in Karachi.
The statement further explained, “Following the category renewals, the trade and retention window will be opened. Once the trade and retention window is open, the pick order for the player draft for the upcoming season will also be shared.”
In the previous month, the PCB confirmed the window for the 2024 edition of the PSL, with the final schedule set to be confirmed in the next meeting.
The ninth season of PSL will continue with six teams, and no additional teams will be added.
In support of women’s cricket, the PCB will explore opportunities for women’s league or exhibition matches during the PSL.
It was also decided that the PCB would collaborate with the franchises to explore alternative venues as part of contingency planning.
According to sources, the PSL will not be relocated to Dubai due to elections or any other reasons, as all franchises have agreed to keep the PSL in its current location. If election-related disruptions are anticipated, the PSL schedule will be adjusted accordingly.
