The Kotkay minor hydropower project was officially launched on Tuesday by Irrigation Minister Arshad Ayub following the completion of construction at a cost of more than Rs2 billion.
The minister said at the inauguration ceremony that “not only will this project provide power, but it will irrigate enormous tracts of barren land as well.”
For the first time, he claimed, the provincial government generated electricity to satisfy local demand and address the nation’s energy needs.
The district, according to the minister, had minor irrigation issues, but its lands were primarily arid or rain-fed.
He claimed that the scheme will make life better for growers.
Following the impending dissolution of the legislature, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, according to Mr. Ayub, will form the next provincial administration as well.
